Since Russ Roberts can’t get the data to match his narrative on ‘austerity’, he makes up new data and a new definition for austerity.

He didn’t expect someone to go look at his data source (I think he just found it himself) and look at total general government expenditure then compare it:

Since the downward slope in total government general expenditures doesn’t fit Russ Roberts narrative, he just makes shit up. Also since ‘austerity’ just means reduced government spending to wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austerity

and everyone else, he moves the goalposts and now demands it mean ‘slashing’ government spending.

So transparent.

  • Very clever. The old compare apples to oranges trick. I bet even Maxwell Smart could figure that one out. With a handful of exceptions, very few countries in Europe even know what the word austerity means. If you read the newspapers, they define austerity as a minuscule cut to the planned rate of future spending that will inflict the most horrible of horrors across the entire economy and all social services if enacted. Sacrifice to governments is getting a 4% budget raise instead of the planned 5%….. how can they possible function on this dire austerity of a 4% increase. How uncivilized.

What?
